Kurt Travis Talks About His Departure
September 8, 2010
While fans of Dance Gavin Dance are jumping for joy at the fact that Jonny Craig is back in the line up Kurt Travis has discussed his departure from the band in a recent interview.
He has denied rumours that he quit the band, coming out and saying he was kicked out so Jonny could rejoin the band.
“I definitely was never going to quit, I got kicked out. The band told me that they were going to break up because they weren’t happy with it, but before they did they were going do a tour with Jonny and just do Downtown Battle Mountain songs. Things didn’t really happen the way they told me it seems. I was just trying to stay in DGD as long as I could, knowing one day it would come to an end.”

Miles Away – Endless Roads
August 28, 2010
For years now, Perth hardcore band ‘Miles Away’ have been a prominent name on the Australian hardcore scene. After national tours, visits overseas, and a catalog of solid releases the boys have upped the notch with their latest LP ‘Endless Roads’.
The opening track ‘Hibernation/Seasonal’ is emblematic of the bands hard, fast style and sets the bar for the remainder of the album. I think musically, the band have come a long way. Whilst their previous albums were all good fun, there is a lot more finesse with the production and structure in their tracks.
A stand out for me is the song ‘Rain Eyes’. Whilst they’ve stayed true to their roots; they’ve done it better. Griding guitars, fast drums and catchy vocals make it (along with the other tracks) something that you’d want to play over and over again.
Another track to take note of, is ‘Endless Roads’. Starting soft, and finishing heavily; it is somewhat of a masterpiece that comes straight from the heart.
Sure, they could have knocked up another album in 6 months and sung about alcohol, drugs and cigarettes with no real message other than getting fucked up; but they didn’t. With careful planning, hours of writing and a professional approach, ‘Miles Away’ have released what I perceive to be their best album to date.
4.5/5
Also, they have a tour coming up, playing a string of dates with Melbourne band ‘Hopeless’. Catch them on September 23rd at the Arthouse for what should be an awesome show.
Homebake 2010 Cancelled
August 25, 2010
It seems this year has been fraught with festival announcements and cancellations, and today we have yet another to add to the list of cancellations. Ogranisers of the Homebake Music, Film and Arts Festival have cancelled the long running festival, the first time in 11 years.
“We’ve not been able to have the ‘planets align’ to a standard we feel appropriate to the long standing reputation of Australia’s largest ‘locals only’ event, we’d rather focus on a positive future and are instead planning for a unique return version of Homebake Festival to take place during the first week of December 2011,” was the statement issued to the public.
It’s a shame that the festival has been cancelled but hopefully this ‘unique return’ will bring with it something new and exciting.
