Okay, so I realize that we’re a couple of days behind, so apologies on behalf of the CD’s & Shit crew.
If you didn’t know already, the one man music machine “Muscles” has finally dropped his new single “Girls Go Crazy”.
After a very longggg wait since his debut album, “Guns, Babes, Lemonade”, we are finally given a taste of what’s to come off his latest installment, which will be released on October 29.

“Girl Go Crazy” is a little different to his earlier work, it’s still infectiously synthy and poppy, but Muscles seems to showcase his clearly improved vocals in the main choruses. He also seems to have mastered the world of Ableton, with each of his loops executed perfectly creating what truley is a pleasure to listen to. So here it is, “Girls Go Crazy”

Wobble, wobble, wobble.
The familiar sounds of “Jack Beats” are slowly breaking onto the Australian market, with dubstep becoming just as popular as the colour black. The Duo “Beni G” and “Plus One”, have pioneered a new branch of British house music, which is filthier than a pregnant 15 year old, and as bad-ass as the last man stading at Revolver.

With a host of remix’s from well known artists such as Passion Pit, Fake Blood, La Roux and a host of others, the duo have created a sound full of wobble, well pitched accapellas and a driving bass line. They are definitely a pair to keep your eye on, having recently signed to “Cheap Thrills” records.

They’re in the country in a few weeks time, playing a string of dates with the ever so popular “Parklife” festival. So get along to see them, and prepare to have your face melted.

Digitalism Return to Aus

September 14, 2010

Everyone gets excited when their favourite act comes to Australia; it’s a given. When I read that the German dance-punk duo were coming to our shores, I damn near wet myself. However, as I continued further into the article and only saw Perth dates confirmed, I managed to control my bladder.
Returning to Australia for the signature New Years bash, “Club Paradiso”, the pair of electronic wizards are sure to drop bombs on the unsuspecting Western Australian punters. Are there more dates? Only time will tell. But until then, check out some of my favourite tracks off of 2007’s “Idealism”, and 2008’s “Moshi Moshi EP”. And just because I can, a Daft Punk remix which fucking rules.

Digitalism – Pogo
Digitalism – Idealistic
Digitalism – Echoes
Daft Punk – Technologic (Digitalism Remix)

The ‘Melbourne’ Sound

September 9, 2010

If David Guetta is your hero, click the little red cross in the top right corner because you don’t deserve to be reading this.

Just 170 kilometres from where I’m sitting, there’s a little town called Melbourne. It’s the state capital, full of art, sport and all that bullshit they write in visitor books.
It’s also home to a group of artists that know how to make music, and have made what is becoming ‘The Melbourne Sound’.

With an abundance of clubs and bars, promoters and DJ’s have fought for years to differentiate themselves from the crowd. Clubs like TFU, Korova and Wah Wah have each become leaders, with their local residents frequently pumping out tunes that are made in Melbourne.

The likes of Stevie Mink, Holly J, Heath Renata, Kalus, Silversix, Adam Bartas, Mike Metro and a host of others are quickly becoming household names, with their music being played at select venues, to an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd.

So there you go, snap your Bloody Beetroots CD in half and try something different. Think booming basslines, horns, bootlegs, sirens and other dirty shit; it will no doubt make your mother cringe. Sus out the links at the bottom of the page, and give them feedback.

Kalus
Mike Metro
Heath Renata
Silversix

This year brought forward a showcase of talent, with The XX, Mumford & Suns, Florence & the Machine, Radioclit and many more, performing a string of dates across the country.
The good news is, it’ll be back again in 2011 with venues and dates confirmed for February next year!

Monday 31st January 2011 – venue TBC, Auckland
Friday 4th February 2011 – Alexandria St off St Paul’s Terrace, Brisbane
Saturday 5th February 2011 – Footscray Community Arts Centre, Melbourne
Sunday 6th February 2011 – Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney
Friday 11th February 2011 – Fowler’s Live, North Terrace, Adelaide
Saturday 12th February 2011 – Cultural Centre, Northbridge, Perth

As for the lineup, you’ll have to stay tuned, but I’m positive that it will be just as good, if not BETTER than this year.

A relatively new name to the scene, ‘Duck Sauce’ is the latest colloboration between superstar producer, ‘Armand Van Helden’, and scratch wizard ‘A-Trak’. Failing to reach their full potential, the duo have released a number of tracks through A-Trak’s self founded label ‘Fool’s Gold Record’s’.
Their first release ‘aNYway’ may have had a quirky title, but was nothing fabulous, as it filled the gaps on summers Ministry of Sound relase. It’s been relatively quiet since then, until now.

‘Barbra Streisand’ is the duos latest release. As horrible as this may sound, I struggle to find one positive from it. It is without a doubt the worst release I have heard in 2010. A boring mediocre blend of loops and samples that could have been achieved with a MacBook, 2 Red Bulls and my 45 minute lunch break.

So don’t waste your time, I give it 0.5/5 (And that’s only cause I like A-Trak)

Mainstream is Dead.

September 3, 2010

First there was emo.
Then came indie.
Now there’s disco.

Is mainstream dead?

If you’re a Triple J listener, you have no excuses NOT to have heard the name ‘Cloud Control”. The quartet hailing from the Blue Mountains have just released their debut album ‘Bliss Release’ gaining alot of mixed reviews and opinions.
You can tell from just one listen the time and effort put into the album. They have established a unique sound that isn’t “over-produced”, like a lot of the shit kicking around our airwaves.
Radio hit “There’s nothing in the water…” was written by vocalist Alister Wright whilst travelling through India, whilst the other members crafted the bands sound back in Australia. This track is a standout on the album. It is simply infectious, eerie and leaves you wanting more. It is a showcase of Wrights vocals, as well as the other members sheer musical talent.
I have never really listened to this genre of music, but this album drew me in and almost opened my eyes to a world outside of synthesisers and drum loops. The raw talent and edginess the band achieves is far from perfect, and exactly where it should be.
It is infectious, catchy and a mature first LP for a great upcoming Australian band. Have a listen, and check them out.
3.5/5

And I got a dick that’s as big as Texas.

Check out Busy P. The man himself will be in the country this month for the well anticipated Parklife festival. All I’m going to say is expect bangers, sweat and potential nudity.
